Sardis (Sart) (Sardes)

Sardis

1Corinthians 15:52  In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1Th_4:16  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Lev 23:23  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Lev 23:24  Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.
Lev 23:25  Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

Revelation_2:1  Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
Revelation_2:7  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

Revelation 3:1  And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
Rev 3:2  Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
Rev 3:3  Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
Rev 3:4  Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
Rev 3:5  He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Rev 3:6  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Friday 26 September 2014

Today is an interesting day. We left our hotel in Istanbul and headed towards the airport with our taxi shuttle service. The driver was motoring and getting there fast. The charge for a 20km ride was 50 Turkish Lira. thats about R250 or US $25. The security check went quick at the airport and we were soon sitting inside ordering breakfast on the inside of the airport. We flew with Atlas Jet airline to Izmir (Smyrna) because its the closest airport to our starting point.

When we arrived with a jumpy flight towards the end we quickly established that it was good to use the Metro bus to town and from there take a charted bus to Alasehir. This is where we made a part mistake because the original names of the towns are not the same anymore. We found that we were on our way to Philadelphia instead. At this point we were near Sardis so we asked the driver if he could drop us in Sardis. It was not a problem. We were loaded off 2.5km from the first ruins. We took all our luggage and walked. it was a long haul with so much baggage but it was worth it.

When we got to the ruins we each paid 6 TL to enter and saw some of the most amazing ruins. We saw some of the things we expected to see as well as inspected the geo-tag gps co ordinates and compass directions. We took lots of pictures and videos. When we arrived there was a group leaving and we were alone until we were on our way out... So we had these amazing ruins all to ourselves while we were there.

When we finished we went back to fetch our bags and move on to the Temple of Artemis. With all our baggage we walked for probably 3km to our next destination.  Artemis has a history of her own and is interesting history. We took lots of pictures and a few videos.

The arches, very high with the very prominent 'sun' bricks

The bases of the pillars that are left

Inside the Synagogue

The courtyard of the synagogue

The main building

Lots of interesting patterns of the past

A structure with amazing architechture

Rebuilding of the ruins

The old and the new

Inner courtyard of the main site building

The outside of the main building

Inside the arches

Under the one arch. See they all look like suns rays

Outer courtyard of the suns rays

Remains of pillars

Same look as the Ephesus library

7 pillars from a distance

First picture shows more or less the locations of the 7 churches

Once a circle is drawn right around touching the outer churches we see where Sardis lies

Right in the centre of the 7 Churches

Revelation 1:13  And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
Revelation 2:1  Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
Revelation 2:7  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

There is already the significance that is obvious to Sardis. He is in the midst of the 7 candlesticks. Imagine the Jewish Menorah as the seven candelstick and the one in the centre been representing the one that would be returning one day.
